Physical
Description:
Extraordinarily
tall and slender; unique black and white plumage and
long red legs; carmine or crimson eyes; half web feet.
Adult females have dark brown back.

Habitat:
Grassy
marshes, mud flats, pools, shallow lakes. Also, irrigated
or flooded fields; brackish ponds of saltwater marshes
and freshwater ponds in the back of beaches along the
Gulf Coast.

|
Nest:
A
shallow depression lined with grass or shell fragments in
a marsh.
Both
parents incubate about 25 days.
3
to 4 brown-spotted buff eggs.
